Subject: Co-Sponsorship Resolution - Designating The Week of April 6 - 12 as The Young Child Week in PA

I will be introducing a resolution that recognizes the week of April 6-12, 2014 as the Week of the Young Child.

The Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The purpose of WOYC is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize early childhood programs and services that meet those needs at the local, state, and federal levels. The WOYC is a time to plan how we – as citizens of the community, state, and nation will better meet the needs of all young children and their families. This week long celebration draws attention to how a high-quality early education experience the first few years of life sets a child on the path to success in school and in life and offers tips for parents to be sure they’re choosing high quality educational programs.

“Week of the Young Child” reinforces the fact that, the early years (birth through age 8) are critical learning years, and qualified early childhood professional accelerate how our children learn, develop, build the skills to get along with others, and succeed in school and in life. NAEYC accredited programs offer a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment during the early years with skilled and knowledgeable staff and professionals who can ensure children have the most positive early learning experience as possible.

Please join me in recognizing and celebration the Week of the Young Child by co-sponsoring this resolution.
