I plan to introduce legislation that would amend Title 42 to expand the authorized methods of recording and storing judicial records to include optical and electronic imaging technology. Current law requires that many judicial records be maintained in outdated and cumbersome analog formats that are costly to produce and store and are not easily accessible by modern standards. This legislation would expand the list of authorized methods of recording and copying judicial systems records to include optical, electronic and other processes which accurately reproduce the original and form secure and unalterable copies. This Bill is similar to House Bill 1453 (Ross) of the previous session which was voted unanimously out of the House. Thank you for your consideration of this matter. |
