Subject: | “Pennsylvania Health Care Information Technology Awareness Day.” |
In the next few days I will be introducing a resolution designating Wednesday, May 7, 2014 as “Pennsylvania Health Care Information Technology Awareness Day.” Health care costs represent 17.2% of Gross Domestic Product nationally. Seventy percent of health care transactions are paper based. A study by the Commonwealth Fund has demonstrated that the use of automated clinical decision support systems can result in the net reduction of $538 per patient per hospital stay. In 2012 Senate Bill 8 was signed into law, enacting the Pennsylvania eHealth Information Technology Act and establishing the Pennsylvania eHealth Partnership Authority and a health information exchange; therefore it be resolved that the House of Representatives recognize the importance of raising awareness of health care information technology and the vital role it will play in helping to save lives and reduce the cost of health care for all Pennsylvanians. The House of Representatives welcome friends, supporters and members of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) on their visit to the State Capitol to promote better health care in this Commonwealth through broader adoption of advanced health care information technology and management systems on that day. Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution. |
