MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 2, 2014 04:10 PM
From: Representative Rick Mirabito
To: All House members
Subject: Little League Baseball’s 75th Anniversary

In the very near future, I am planning to introduce a resolution honoring the 75th anniversary of Little League baseball.

Little League baseball was founded when its first game was played on June 6, 1939, in Williamsport. The league began with three teams of 10 players each. Of the nine World Series organized by Little League, the oldest is the Little League World Series played at the complex located on 72 acres in Williamsport. This Pennsylvania town is known worldwide as the Home of Little League baseball.

Little League players range from 4 to 18 years of age. Little League baseball encourages players to learn and engage in its core values of leadership, citizenship, sportsmanship and teamwork. The league emphasizes community and volunteerism, and contributes to forming positive relationships between neighbors in communities all across the country and around the world. Today, not only is Little League baseball played in all 50 states, but involvement in Little League spans the globe, with 2.4 million boys and girls playing Little League worldwide in 83 countries.

Please join me in honoring this Pennsylvania historic treasure on the 75th anniversary of the Little League.
