Subject: | Resolution directing the Joint State Commission to study the issues of professional bedside nurse staffing |
For the past 4 legislative sessions, the House has entertained legislation aimed at reducing the burden on nursing staff and having a more appropriate and safe method to staff our hospitals. Due to conflict on the appropriate and safe nursing staffing, I will be introducing a resolution directing the Joint State Government Commission to study the issues of professional bedside nurse staffing and report to the House of Representatives with its findings and recommendations on: · Cost of serious preventable adverse events on hospitals · Average shift length and overtime requirement for professional bedside nurses · Strategies for lowering hospital readmissions as required by the Affordable Care Act · Methods to reduce nurse fatigue and premature retirement This resolution evaluates the present healthcare environment by involving professional bedside nurses and other staff members in decisions to assure patient needs and staff competencies are appropriately matched to guarantee hospital safety and satisfaction. Please join me in sponsoring this resolution! |
