Subject: | Legislation to increase the Personal Income Tax by one half of one per cent |
"I think we've reached the end of the string as it were, in terms of what we can cut from State Government. I don't know that there's much more we can do on that." Budget Secretary Charles Zogby After years of not addressing the fiscal problems of the Commonwealth we find ourselves at a crossroads. No longer can we continue cutting and denying our obligations just to make ends meet. We have reached the crisis point of whether this Commonwealth moves forward or we continue spiraling to the bottom. I will be introducing legislation shortly to increase the Personal Income Tax by one half of one per cent. This increase would generate an additional $2 Billion in revenue which would be dedicated solely to Basic Education and which would expire in two years. While acknowledging this is not a popular position, it is time to put the people above Philosophy. |
