Subject: | Resolution Commemorating the Life of Arthur L. Powell |
In the near future, I will be introducing a condolence resolution in memory of Arthur L. Powell, a well-known businessman, developer and philanthropist in Upper Merion, PA. Mr. Powell passed away the ninth of June at the age of 93. As President and Chairman of Kravco Company, Retail Developers, Mr. Powell and his partners were pioneers in the development of suburban regional malls - having a profound effect on how Americans shop today. Referred to affectionately as “the soul of King of Prussia,” with more than 60 years of real estate and development experience, Art Powell is most notably credited with the vision and creation of the King of Prussia Mall which, as you may recall in an earlier co-sponsorship memo celebrating its fiftieth anniversary last year, is the largest shopping mall in the United States in terms of leasable space, employing tens of thousands of workers and bringing billions of dollars into the local economy each year. Aside from his professional achievements and significant contributions to Pennsylvania’s economy, Mr. Powell was well-known for his humble approach to philanthropy and public service. Mr. Powell fully and purposefully dedicated himself to the local area where his business thrived and he was a dedicated advocate for education and funded several scholarships and endowments throughout his life. Mr. Powell garnered local recognitions too numerous to name. Please join me in honoring this extraordinary man. |
