MEMORANDUM

Posted: July 18, 2014 09:27 AM
From: Representative Keith Gillespie
To: All House members
Subject: Designation of the Randy S. Schell Memorial Bridge

In the near future, I will be introducing a bill designating the bridge on State Route 181 that crosses the Conewago Creek and divides Newberry and East Manchester Townships in York County, as the Randy S. Schell Memorial Bridge.
Randy was a United States Army Specialist 4 and was killed in action, at age 20, while serving our country in Vietnam on June 18, 1968. After his squad was attacked on a reconnaissance mission, SP4 Schell engaged the enemy and selflessly exposed himself to enemy fire while administering first aid to wounded soldiers in open areas and transporting casualties to safety. In his search for other wounded soldiers, he was killed by enemy sniper fire.
For his unquestionable valor and gallantry in action, SP4 Schell was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with V for Valor, and the Purple Heart.
Please join me in honoring the memory of this individual for his ultimate sacrifice.
