Subject: Resolution Recognizing Pennsylvania's Own Taney Dragons!

The Taney Dragons Little League Baseball Team has captured the attention of people throughout the Commonwealth and the nation with its effort at the Little League World Series in Williamsport. I feel proud to proclaim that the team hails from the 182nd Legislative District, although all of Philadelphia has adopted the team and its players as the city’s very own. As the Little League Pennsylvania Champions, the team has made all of Pennsylvania proud.

Therefore, in the near future, I will introduce a resolution honoring the Taney Dragons 12U team, all of its players, coaches, volunteers and sponsors along with the Taney Youth Baseball Association (TYBA).

We all should feel proud with Taney’s Mo’ne Davis appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated. More importantly, the team has earned the honor of recognition by the House with its achievements on the field at the Little League World Series and as Champions for the Mid-Atlantic, for all of Pennsylvania, for Pennsylvania’s Section 8.

Additionally, 2014 marks the 20th Anniversary of TYBA with those involved offering fun, instruction, good sportsmanship and teamwork to Philadelphia youth since 1994. In fact, the TYBA offers baseball, softball and tee-ball to nearly 1,000 boys and girls from age 3- to 15-years-old and basketball to more than 300 boys and girls from age 6 to 12-years-old. The TYBA surely makes a difference in many young people’s lives in teaching lessons that will last a lifetime.

I ask that all Members join with me in honoring this team who has well-represented the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at the Little League World Series in 2014 and the TYBA for its two decades of great work with young people.

Should you have any questions about this resolution, please contact Rhonda Campbell in Rep. Sims' office at rcampbel@pahouse.net or (717) 783-4072.
