Subject: | POW/MIA Recognition Day |
I will be introducing a resolution designating Friday, September 19, 2014, as POW/MIA Recognition Day in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Each year, the third Friday in September is set aside to recognize our nation's prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action, as well as their families. Across the country remembrance ceremonies and other events to observe the day are held at places such as the Pentagon, war memorials, museums, and veterans' organizations. The day is one of six in which Congress mandates the flying of the POW/MIA flag, which symbolizes that we will never forget America's prisoners of war and those who remain missing in action. I believe it is our obligation to always remember the sacrifices made to defend our nation. Please join me in in honoring our prisoners of war and our missing, and in demonstrating our commitment to do everything in our power to bring them home. |
