MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 2, 2014 12:31 PM
From: Representative Cherelle L. Parker
To: All House members
Subject: Co-sponsorship Memo for George de Lama Resolution

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution honoring George de Lama on his selection as President of Eisenhower Fellowships.

On August 4, 2014, George de Lama became the 10th President of Eisenhower Fellowships, a prestigious nonprofit organization that identifies and connects emerging leaders from around the world to empower them to make an even greater impact in their local communities. I had the privilege of being selected as an Eisenhower Fellow in the inaugural class of the Women’s Leadership Program (WLP), which emphasizes the importance of women in leadership roles and gives participants the opportunity to study other political systems in order to identify best practices for common policy issues such as economic and community development, public safety, and education.

A Chicago native, Mr. De Lama enjoyed an illustrious 30-year career at the Chicago Tribune, where he became managing editor of news and oversaw a prize-winning staff. In this position, he was the first Latino on the paper’s masthead. He also established three international news bureaus for the Tribune, including the first American newspaper post in Cuba in 35 years.

Following his tenure at the Tribune, Mr. De Lama served as Advisor for External Relations at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington D.C. and subsequently as President of Global Development for Answers Media LLC in Chicago. In addition, he founded Answers Learning LLC and received the prominent Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University. Mr. De Lama currently resides in Philadelphia.

Please join me in honoring George de Lama on his appointment to this prominent position.

Thank you for your consideration.
