House of Representatives
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 11, 2012 02:33 PM
From: Representative Anthony M. DeLuca
To: All House members
Subject: Employment of illegal aliens

In the near future I will be re-introducing legislation (House Bill 1024 of 2011) amending Title 18 which would require that any employer found to have employed illegal aliens shall be subject to the suspension or revocation of their professional or business license by the applicable authority or agency and imposing a $5,000 penalty.

While we passed legislation last Session requiring public works employers to use the E-Verify system to determine the employment eligibility of job applicants, in a time when unemployment rates are high it is important that we do everything we can to help preserve job for our citizens. My legislation goes one step further to ensure that employers with professional or business licenses also face consequences for hiring illegal residents.

Introduced as HB235
