Subject: | Curbside Voting for Disabled Individuals |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that will allow disabled voters to vote curbside at their polling place on Election Day. 27 other states currently allow for this type of voting. Disabled voters (especially those who require the use of walkers and wheelchairs) can have difficulty maneuvering into the polling place. Those who wish to cast their ballot in person should have the same opportunity as others. My legislation will amend Title 25 to allow a qualified elector who has a physical disability to request a ballot by an election official outside the polling place of the qualified elector. To ensure ballot security, the disabled voter must present a valid photo ID and cast the ballot within 150 feet of a polling place in a secret manner in the presence of two election officials from each political party. The election officials must then immediately return to the polling place and deposit the ballot in the voting machine. Please consider joining me a co-sponsor to ensure all Pennsylvanians have the same opportunity to cast their vote in person on Election Day.
