Subject: Volunteer Firefighter Driver’s License Designation
 
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that will allow volunteer firefighters to have the option of a “volunteer firefighter” designation placed on their driver’s license.

Just 50 years ago, Pennsylvania had nearly 300,000 volunteer firefighters. That number is now fewer than 40,000. Additionally, many volunteer fire departments are often cash-strapped and cannot afford to create membership cards.

The General Assembly can step in to help with recruitment and bring greater recognition to these brave heroes of our communities.

My bill will allow our volunteer firefighters to easily provide proof of their service to access available benefits and discounts.
