Senate Co-Sponsorship Memoranda

In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing the importance of protecting the milkweed plant. The intent of this resolution is to bring awareness of the benefits that the milkweed plant provides to the monarch butterfly and other pollinator species.  

 

The monarch butterfly is currently an endangered species and has decreased in population by more than 80 percent since the 1990s. Much of the habitat loss is related to the continued loss of the milkweed plant. The milkweed plant has continued to decline due to herbicide spraying, mowing and land development.  

 

Conservation of the milkweed plant would aid in the repopulation of the monarch butterfly and other pollinator species.
