Subject: | Co-Sponsorship of Legislation Establishing a Police Fuel Reimbursement Fund (Former HB 1339) |
In the near future, I intend to re-introduce legislation (former HB 1339) that will amend Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes establishing the Police Fuel Reimbursement Fund, while providing for a police reimbursement surcharge. This legislation will implement a $12 surcharge fee upon conviction for a violation of section 3362 (relating to maximum speed limits) of the Vehicle Code. The surcharges collected will be remitted to the Commonwealth to be deposited in the Police Fuel Reimbursement Fund which has been established under this legislation. The Police Fuel Reimbursement Fund is administered through the State Treasury with the purpose to assist police departments across the Commonwealth by providing reimbursements for their fuel. A provision of this legislation requires an issuing authority of the Commonwealth to submit information shared by the treasury on a quarterly basis including: the total number of convictions resulting in a surcharge in Section 3362 (relating to maximum speed limits) and the total amount appropriated to the issuing authority for fuel costs. After all of the annual reimbursements have been made to issuing authorities, the remaining balance will be paid to the Pennsylvania State Police. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. Previous Co-sponsors of former HB 1339: Denlinger, Harkins, Hornaman, Josephs, Mullery, Swanger and Thomas |
