Subject: | Permit Extensions - Re-introduction of HB 2470 2011-2012 |
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce HB 2470, legislation that would further define the extension of approved state and local building permits for construction projects. This language will allow for the extension of state and local construction permits approved as of July 2, 2013. Last Session, HB 2470 passed the House unanimously. In addition, this language will suspend the timeframe of already approved permits. Recent court decisions have indicated that the current language may cause all extended permits to end on the same day, July 2, 2016, which is not the original intent of the legislation. Because the Commonwealth and our local municipalities approve hundreds of thousands of permits a year, a single expiration point would not only cause a chaotic renewal process, but even more expense and wasted time for municipalities and private businesses. This extension will greatly benefit the recovery of residential construction and Pennsylvania’s economy by coordinating permit approval timeframes with available financing in this tough economy. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation. Former co-sponsors include: M. K. KELLER , KNOWLES, MARSHALL , METCALFE , OBERLANDER, PYLE , BEAR and LAWRENCE |
