| Subject: | Joint State Government Commission Study of Long-term Care Services and Supports Delivery System |
| As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Programs and Benefits for the House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee, I am introducing a resolution that will call upon the Joint State Government Commission to study issues relating to the Commonwealth’s delivery system of long-term care services and supports for care dependent older adults. Upon conclusion, the Commission will report their findings and recommendations to the General Assembly. Part of the intent of this study is to determine how we can best address the challenges facing our senior citizens. Secondly, it will help us identify demographic needs so that we can address those needs with more flexibility, instead of a one size fits all cookie cutter approach. This review shall also include information regarding access to long-term care services and supports necessary to meet the needs of care-dependent older Pennsylvanians, including the affordability of services, and the role of public and private sectors in paying for services. At a recent AOAS Committee Informational Meeting involving a panel of aging service providers, provider’s viewpoints differed greatly on services as well as delivery of services. It became abundantly clear that the time has come for a comprehensive, bipartisan review of Pennsylvania’s long-term care system, including an analysis and recommendations of future costs of providing long-term care services and supports.
