Subject: | Resolution honoring the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia for their exhibit “Beyond Swastika and Jim Crow: Jewish Refugee Scholars at Black Colleges” and its value to American history |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing and honoring the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia for their exhibit “Beyond Swastika and Jim Crow: Jewish Refugee Scholars at Black Colleges” and its value to American history. Terminated from teaching positions in the 1930s, in the beginnings of the Nazis rise to power, Jewish professors from Germany and Austria immigrated to the United States and found employment at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. This exhibit highlights the unique relationship forged between the Jewish and African-American communities and the role of this relationship in the Civil Rights Movement. Please join me in recognizing and honoring the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia for calling our attention to this important chapter in American history through this powerful exhibit. Thank you for your support of this legislation. |
