MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 25, 2013 02:23 PM
From: Representative Bryan Barbin
To: All House members
Subject: BARBIN::Designating May 10, 2013 at Military Spouse Appreciation Day

In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating May 10, 2013, as Military Spouse Appreciation Day in Pennsylvania.

Military Spouse Appreciation Day was first celebrated in 1984, when President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the observance to honor the contributions and sacrifices of military spouses. The legacy of military spouses began in colonial America during the war for our independence when Martha Washington aided in boosting the morale of colonial troops by visiting battlefields and tending to the dying and wounded.

Today’s military spouses, both men and women, endure long separations from loved ones, often singlehandedly tending to children and maintaining a home and career. Military spouses also serve as the frontline of this country’s conscience in ensuring proper care for returning soldiers injuries, whatever their nature. The special injuries of this last decade of war, Traumatic Brain Injury and its related Post Traumatic Stress Disorders, require long suffering, gentleness, and patience in the months and years after loved ones have returned home. Their sacrifice to defend our way of life, our nation and our freedoms should be honored by all.

Please join me in honoring these courageous individuals who provide inspiration through their strength, leadership, and sacrifice.
