Subject: | Add Names of the Lost 74 from the Destroyer USS Frank E. Evans to Vietnam Veterans Memorial |
In the near future I plan to introduce a resolution encouraging the United States Department of Defense to include the names of the 74 fallen sailors (“Lost 74”) from the Destroyer USS Frank E. Evans (DD 754) on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. During April and May of 1969 the DD754 served as gunfire support along the Vietnam Coast. After resupplying in the Philippines the destroyer began war games maneuvers in the South China Sea. On June 3, 1969, 74 shipmates including 5 from Pennsylvania of the DD 754 lost their lives when the destroyer collided with the Australian Aircraft Carrier HMAS Melbourne and was cut in half in the South China Sea near the coast of Vietnam. The names of the “Lost 74” should be inscribed upon the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC along with all of the servicemen whose lives were lost during the Vietnam War. Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution. |
