Subject: | Resolution calling for a symbolic maratorium on the use of the "N" word |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution calling for a symbolic moratorium on the use of the “N” word and all of its variants in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The “N” word has been traditionally been used as a word of hate and victimization towards African-Americans in this country. Though the African-American community remains divided over its use due in part to movies, television and the music industry, I firmly believe that it has no place in our modern lexicon and consider it the ultimate racial slur that has been used to offend and disparage the black community. Pennsylvania has a long and proud history when it comes to civil rights and equal treatment of all people, dating back to the days of William Penn. Let us prove how worthy of this legacy we are and join with me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. Please contact Germaine Brown (gbrown@pahouse.net) in my Harrisburg office if you have any questions regarding this resolution. |
