MEMORANDUM

Subject: Co-sponsorship of Legislation – Resolution Designating the week of October 28 through November 1, 2013 as “No Place for Hate Week” in Pennsylvania

On Monday, October 21, I will introduce a resolution designating the week of October 28 through November 1, 2013, as “No Place for Hate Week” in Pennsylvania and commending the Anti-Defamation League on its 100th anniversary. It is my sincere hope you will join me in this effort.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was founded in October 1913 to fight anti-Semitism and to “secure justice and fair treatment to all.” Now as one of the nation's premier civil rights/human relations agencies, ADL continues the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, defends democratic ideals and protects civil rights for all. As part of the organization’s efforts, the “No Place for Hate” program was established as an outreach effort designed to empower schools and communities to challenge racism, hatred, anti-Semitism, and bigotry. By reducing bias and increasing appreciation for diversity, “No Place for Hate” is an innovative and powerful method for building communities of respect.

At this writing, this crucial program is operational in over 200 schools, organizations and communities throughout Pennsylvania. “No Place for Hate” has proven to be an invaluable resource to communities throughout the Commonwealth. In recognition of the many accomplishments of “No Place for Hate” and to mark ADL’s 100th anniversary, I will be sponsoring a resolution designating the week of October 28 through November 1, 2013 as “No Place for Hate Week” in Pennsylvania. I invite all members to co-sponsor this important legislation.
