Subject: | Juneteenth National Freedom Day |
Previously, we passed House Resolution 322 recognizing “Juneteenth National Freedom Day” for 2012. In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will establish “Juneteenth National Freedom Day” as an annual observance. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Today, this commemorates African-American freedom by emphasizing education and achievement. It is recognized annually in approximately 37 states nationwide. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. Thank you, |
