Subject: | Resolution commemorating the 61th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement |
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce a Resolution commemorating the 61th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement signed on July 27, 1953. As many of you recall, President Harry S. Truman ordered United States Military intervention in Korea on June 27, 1950, two days after the invasion of South Korea by communist North Korea in a deadly coordinated attack. In three-years of active combat on land, in the sea, and through the air over the Korean Peninsula, the war was one of the deadliest wars in history for American Soldiers trailing only the Civil War, both World Wars, and Vietnam. Over 2 million American Soldiers served in the Korean War with nearly 36,576 American deaths and 7,500 American Soldiers still missing in action. For their bravery and ultimate sacrifice, the Congressional Medal of Honor was awarded to 131 soldiers, 97 of them posthumously. For your convenience, I have attached a copy of the language for your perusal. If you have any questions regarding this Resolution, please contact my Research Analyst -- Takesha Latham at (717) 705-1943 or via email at tlatham@pahouse.net. |
