Subject: | Resolution Honoring the Cambodian New Year on April 13, 2014 |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution commemorating the Cambodian New Year, which is celebrated this year on April 13th, 14th, and 15th. The United States is home to a large Cambodian-American community. In fact, Philadelphia is home to one of the largest Cambodian-American communities in the country. New Year is the most important holiday in the Cambodian calendar and major celebrations are held each year in Philadelphia and in other Cambodian-American communities. On a personal note, I have Cambodian-American family members, so the holiday has special significance to me, although I do not offer this resolution for personal reasons. I offer it because Cambodian-Americans have become an important, yet often under-appreciated, part of our common Pennsylvania heritage. Please join me in encouraging the General Assembly to honor the Cambodian-American community in celebration of the Cambodian New Year in our Commonwealth. |
