In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution directing the Joint State Government Commission to establish an advisory committee to examine truancy across the Commonwealth. The advisory committee will be comprised of representatives of the Department of Education, educational organizations, the judiciary, district attorneys, law enforcement, public organizations involved in truancy issues, and other organizations selected by the Joint State Government Commission. Specifically, my resolution directs the advisory committee to study the following:
As our truancy laws and policies have not been thoroughly examined or fundamentally changed since the early 1990s, and with the rise of charter and cyber charter schools, this resolution is a needed step in updating our truancy laws and policies. |
