MEMORANDUM

To: All House members
Subject: Calling on Congress to Stop Corporate Inversion

In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that would call on the United States Congress to put a stop to the tax avoidance practice known as corporate inversion.

Corporate inversion is the practice of corporations nominally moving their headquarters to countries with more favorable tax laws while maintaining the bulk of their processes in their country of origin. Of late, this practice has been growing in the United States, creating a problem whereby corporations unfairly, unethically, and unpatriotically shirk their duty. They benefit from America’s innovative and entrepreneurial culture, well-developed infrastructure, and skilled and well-educated workforce, yet contribute almost no taxes, shifting that burden onto patriotic companies and average citizens. There is currently sensible legislation before Congress that would outlaw this practice.

Please join me in supporting this legislation supporting Congress’s efforts to stop this irresponsible practice and calling on American corporations to remember their sense of patriotism and duty.
