Subject: | "National Guard Day" in Pennsylvania Resolution |
Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution designating April 17, 2013 as “National Guard Day” in Pennsylvania. The resolution commemorates the 258th anniversary of our Commonwealth’s first militia laws and honors Guard members for their enduring contributions to national security, the economy, and emergency preparedness and response. Pennsylvania’s 19,000-member National Guard is one of the largest and most deployed forces in the nation, and the only National Guard to host a Stryker Brigade, built around one of the industry’s most powerful armored vehicles. Dating back to 1755, our nation’s volunteer militia has evolved into today’s modern, professional National Guard. These citizen-soldiers have taken part in every major military conflict this country has faced since the Revolutionary War, and have been a vital part of peacekeeping missions, flood response and recovery, and many other domestic and international operations. Thank you. |
