Subject: | Prostate Cancer Awareness Month |
I will soon introduce a resolution declaring September Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Recent figures show that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime and 1 in 36 men nationwide will die from prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer among men in Pennsylvania and is the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men; it’s estimated that more than 29,000 men will die from prostate cancer in 2013. Despite these figures, studies show that nearly half of all men do not think they are at risk of developing prostate cancer. Our resolution will help raise awareness about the prevalence of this type of cancer in Pennsylvanian men and will acknowledge the importance of raising public awareness concerning the threat and causes of prostate cancer. I hope you join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
