Subject: | Co Sponsorship: Italian-American Heritage Month |
In observance of Columbus Day, I plan to introduce a resolution in the near future recognizing the month of October 2013, as “Italian-American Heritage Month” in Pennsylvania. An Italian, Christopher Columbus, embarked on what would end up being four trips across the Atlantic Ocean starting in 1492 where he accidently stumbled upon the Americans in his voyages. His journeys resulted in centuries of explorations on the American continent. Today we accredit Christopher Columbus with Italian immigration to the New World and Pennsylvania. Americans of Italian decent have become one of the Commonwealth’s most influential ethnic groups and are prominent in Pennsylvania for the arts, law, science, government, commerce, manufacturing and finance. |
