Subject: | Blind Awareness Month |
In the near future I will introduce a resolution recognizing October as Blind Awareness Month. I wish to also recognize the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind for the important work they do helping the blind and visually impaired citizens of our Commonwealth. For over 100 years, Pennsylvania Association for the Blind (PAB) has been dedicated to helping Pennsylvania’s citizens prevent, prepare for, and manage vision loss. Founded in 1910, PAB is the nation’s only statewide private non-profit organization providing services for people who are blind or visually impaired, as well as prevention of blindness programs for the general population. PAB is comprised of a network of 28 Member Agencies across the State that serves over 132,000 Pennsylvanians annually. Services include, vision screenings for preschoolers and adults; eye health/eye safety seminars; vocational rehabilitation and job training programs including access technology training; Braille instruction; low vision examinations; in-home specialized services for the blind; orientation and mobility training; escorted transportation; preschool for blind children; summer instructional programs; support groups; adjustment to blindness counseling and much more. Through hard work and dedication, we are building a stronger more independent blind and visually impaired community, offering new life and experiences to many and hope for the future. |
