Subject: | Adopt a Shelter Pet Week in PA |
In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing the week of October 20 - 26, 2013, as "Adopt a Shelter Pet Week in Pennsylvania." In the United States, six to eight million homeless pets enter animal shelters each year with as many as four million being euthanized. Pennsylvania and the United States also have enormous problems with animal overpopulation a problem that worsens as the economy declines. Shelter animals are usually spayed and neutered before being released to new owners, thus reducing the problem of pet overpopulation and animal shelters are focused on animal placement and providing low-cost adoptions so that everyone can have the opportunity to bring a loving pet into his or her home. By celebrating Adopt a Shelter Pet Week in Pennsylvania, we will encourage pet adoption at local animal shelters and raise awareness of the strain felt by local animal shelters because of the faltering economy and an overpopulation of animals. |
