Subject: | Resolution – Housing Awareness Day |
In the near future, I plan on introducing a resolution designating February 11, 2014 as “Housing Awareness Day.” While Pennsylvania provides more than 200,000 subsidized, assisted, or affordable rental dwelling units, there continues to be a demand for even more affordable housing for low-income families, senior citizens, veterans, and the physically and mentally challenged. By providing individuals with the opportunity for affordable housing, you are providing them with the opportunity to improve their quality of life and that of their families as well. Affordable housing for seniors and disabled persons can mean a much longer time for them to maintain their independence. Subsidized, assisted, and affordable housing improves the socioeconomic climate of the Commonwealth by benefitting not only the residents of these homes but also their neighbors, local businesses, employers, and their communities as a whole. I ask that you please join me in sponsoring this resolution and in recognizing the hard work of the Pennsylvania Association of Housing and Redevelopment Agencies, in partnership with the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania, who works with their members and industry partners to build, develop, support, and provide suitable housing and related services. |
