Subject: | Juneteenth National Freedom Day "Juneteenth" Resolution |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing June 19, 2014 as Juneteenth National Freedom Day "Juneteenth" in Pennsylvania. Juneteenth commemorates the day in which the last of the slaves located in Galveston, Texas were informed of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is the oldest African-American holiday observance in the United States. Juneteenth is recognized as a holiday observance in over 40 states as a way to acknowledge the past and celebrate the present. I invite you to join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. Thank you for your consideration. |
