Subject: | Elder Care Facility Background checks |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a bill to change the required background checks for individuals working in elder care facilities. Under current law, those working in elder care facilities are only required to have a Pennsylvania State background check, as long as they have lived in the Commonwealth for more than two years. When you compare the checks with elder care facilities with that of child care facilities, there is a clear difference; child care facilities require more extensive background checks. I believe that we owe our elder population the same protections we provide to our children. We should ensure that no one who enters an elder care facility has a doubt in their mind about who is providing them care.
