Subject: | Veterans’ bonuses |
I am reintroducing a package of bills (Senate Bills 74, 75 and 76) extending the deadlines to December 31, 2015, of the bonus programs for Pennsylvania veterans of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. For whatever reason, a few Pennsylvania veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam did not apply for their bonuses before the deadlines for the bonus programs. These bills will provide a window of opportunity so that those veterans who deserved a bonus and missed the earlier deadlines may apply for their bonuses. Only veterans who were Pennsylvania residents at the time they entered the armed forces qualify for these bonuses. The veteran or, in the case of the death or the mental incompetence of a veteran, a representative of the veteran may apply for the bonus. While the bonus is only a few hundred dollars, it is a token of appreciation from all of us to those Pennsylvania veterans who served their country during these wars. |
