Subject: | Outside Earned Income Limit (HB368 of 2013) |
In the near future I will be re-introducing legislation (HB 368 of 2013) amending the Pennsylvania Constitution placing a limit on the amount of outside earned income Members of the General Assembly may receive. This legislation will limit a legislator’s outside earned income to 35% of their annual legislative salary. Over the past few years we have all heard the call for increased accountability for the Legislature. As we all know, the duties of our office require our full time attention, frequently requiring us to attend events or make constituent calls on holidays and weekends. We are, without question, a full-time legislature. Our first priority must be to our constituents. As such, our duties as elected officials in the Pennsylvania General Assembly are paramount and should be conducted without distraction or possible conflict. Additionally, this provision would bring the Pennsylvania General Assembly more in line with our colleagues at the Federal level. Similar limitations are imposed on members of our U.S. Congress for earned income and honoraria. I invite you to join me as a co-sponsor of this legislation. |
