Subject: | Legislation Providing for Absence from Work in Order to Vote |
In the very near future, I will re-introduce a bill (HB 1711) that would amend the Pennsylvania Election Code to require employers in the Commonwealth to provide up to three hours of absence from work in order for employees to vote on an election day without penalty or deduction from salary or wages because of the absence. As you may know, twenty-nine other states have some requirement for employers to provide time off to vote on an election day. If you have questions, please contact Matt Hurlburt in my office at mhurlbur@pahouse.net or 787-6778. Previous co-sponsors of HB 1711: COHEN, CLAY, KORTZ, V. BROWN, FRANKEL, BROWNLEE, CALTAGIRONE, THOMAS, P. DALEY, KINSEY, YOUNGBLOOD, McCARTER and FREEMAN. |
