| Subject: | Charter Day in Pennsylvania (former HR 685) |
| In the near future, I will be re-introducing a resolution – former House Resolution 685 – which recognizes March 8, 2015 as “Charter Day” in Pennsylvania. The resolution will commemorate the charter that King Charles II of England granted William Penn on March 4, 1681 to repay him for the debt owed to Penn’s father, Admiral Sir William Penn. It also will observe how William Penn wrote a Frame of Government that established a democratic system that our Commonwealth and nation follow and how the history and fabric of Pennsylvania originated and grew from that point to create and establish Pennsylvania’s heritage. The resolution will urge state residents, schools and other educational institutions and patriotic, religious, historical and veterans groups to participate with any and all Charter activities held within the Commonwealth. It also will recognize the volunteers and other residents who keep history alive through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, the Pennsylvania State Archives, the State Historical Records Advisory Board, the 23 other state historic sites and museums, and through the numerous other historical organizations within the Commonwealth. Please co-sponsor this resolution to recognize March, 8, 2015 as Charter Day in Pennsylvania.
