Subject: | RESOLUTION: RECOGNIZING NATIONAL WOMEN AND GIRLS HIV/AIDS AWARENESS DAY IN PENNSYLVANIA |
In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution formally recognizing Tuesday, March 10, 2015 as National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania. The purpose of this annual observance is to highlight the specific impact of HIV upon women and girls. About one in four people living with HIV are women, and about 217,000 women — 80% of whom are of childbearing age (15 to 44) — are HIV-positive. As such, creating greater awareness about an affliction affecting so many within our society is crucial to preventing both the spread of the disease and assisting those who are affected with the effective management of this disease. A young woman or woman with HIV/AIDS requires a fortified support system. Raising further awareness about this subject would help to combat the both apathy and stigma presently associated with the disease. If you share this same sentiment, I ask that you please join me in recognizing Tuesday, March 10, 2015 as “National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania. If you should have any questions or concerns regarding this legislation, please contact April Rucker in my office at (717) 772-6955 or arucker@pahouse.net. |
