MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 26, 2015 10:35 AM
From: Representative Cherelle L. Parker
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Recognizing and Honoring Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. on the occasion of its annual AKA Legislative Day at the Capitol

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing and honoring Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. on the occasion of its annual AKA Legislative Day at the Capitol on Monday, April 13, 2015.

Founded in 1908 by nine students on the campus of Howard University, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is missioned to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, improve social equity, and promote unity and friendship among collegiate and professional women. Today, the organization proudly boasts a membership of more than 283,000 academically accomplished and civically engaged members worldwide, with more than a dozen chapters and one thousand members in the Commonwealth.

In keeping with the organization’s 2015 theme, “AKA Dimensions of Service: Civil Rights and Social Justice,” the North Atlantic Region members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. have pledged to further their commitment to social justice, civil rights, and the improvement of conditions in our state’s underserved communities. AKA Legislative Day provides our constituent members of the Sorority the opportunity to accomplish this mission by connecting them with state leaders to discuss the most pressing concerns within their respective communities.

Please join me in welcoming the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to our State Capitol on Monday, April 13, 2015, and honoring the Members’ unwavering commitment “to serve as the voices of their communities.”
