Subject: Co-Sponsorship of Resolution – Honoring Cheltenham High School Girls and Boys Indoor Track Teams for repeating as State Champions

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution honoring the Cheltenham High School Girls Indoor Track Team and Boys Indoor Track Team for each having repeated as State Champions for 2015. On March 1, 2015, these girls and boys competed in the PTFCA Indoor State Championship, which was held at Penn State University’s Horace Ashenfelter Indoor Track Facility in State College, PA. This event was sponsored by the Pennsylvania Track & Field Coaches Association.

Indeed, Cheltenham High School, located in Montgomery County, produced an impressive victory, as both the girls and boys teams swept their respective team titles at this high profile track meet.

The Cheltenham Girls Team was led by four seniors who inspired the statewide audience with their electrifying performances. One of these seniors set an all-time state record while winning the 60 Meter Hurdles. Another team member set a new school record while winning the 60 Meter Dash over a high quality field of competitors. In addition, a freshman was the surprise winner of the Long Jump and placed seventh (7th) in the 60 Meter Hurdles. The 4 by 200 Meter Relay team set a new State record in winning this event and one freshman finished third (3rd) in the 400 Meters event. Another impressive freshman played an all-important role in the second (2nd) place finish by the 4 by 400 Meter Relay.

The Cheltenham Boys Team repeated as State Champions by earning 74 points, with the next closest competing team having 43 points. They performed at a very high level, as six of their star athletes saved their best performances of the season for this highly competitive track meet.

Please join me in honoring these fine young high school athletes for their stellar performance.
