Subject: | Recognizing May 11 - 15, 2015 as Women's Lung Health Week |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution to recognize the week of May 11 -15, 2015 as Women's Lung Health Week. Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer of women, killing almost twice as many women as any other cancer. On average, less than half of all women diagnosed with lung cancer will be alive one year after their diagnosis. Despite this, only 1 percent of women cite lung cancer as a women’s cancer that is top-of-mind for them. Smoking is a leading cause of lung cancer, but it’s not the only cause. The reality remains that anyone can get lung cancer. In fact, the second leading cause of lung cancer is exposure to radon, and air pollution is also a significant cause. Please join me in recognizing May 11 - 15, 2015 as Women's Lung Health Week by co-sponsoring this legislation. |
