Subject: | Resolution Recognizing May 12th, 2015 as “Industrial Resource Center Appreciation Day” in Pennsylvania |
As co-chairs of the House Manufacturing Caucus, Rep. Schlossberg and I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing May 12th, 2015 as “Industrial Resource Center Appreciation Day” in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is the 8th largest manufacturing state where the sector contributes $77.4 billion to the gross state product, employs 558,000 workers and provides an average annual wage of over $56,000, which is $8,000/year above the statewide average. Together, 14,000 manufacturing businesses pay $31.5 billion in payroll, infuse $959 million of wage taxes into the treasury and provide more than $445 million of sales tax revenue. The Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Centers (IRCs) were created in 1988 to provide manufacturers with the technical resources needed to survive economic downturns, capitalize on market opportunities and support our nation’s supply chain. Today, the IRCs provide extension services directly to manufacturers to foster technological modernization and improvement, focusing on the transfer of knowledge to stimulate learning and action. They also offer pragmatic improvements in strategy and operations, usually with commercially proven technologies. There are currently 7 IRCs in Pennsylvania helping manufacturing companies to look to the future and take advantage of new and emerging trends. We hope that you will join us in recognizing their contribution. |
