Subject: Resolution Recognizing the 800th Anniversary of the Magna Carta
 
I will be introducing a resolution recognizing June 15 as the 800th Anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta. The signing took place at Runnymede England on June 15, 1215, fostering the idea of the law standing above the government. Many believe this document ultimately lead to all the rights and freedoms that we now take for granted: uncensored newspapers, security of property, equality before the law, habeas corpus, regular elections, sanctity of contract, jury trials.
