Subject: | Chalfant Borough, Allegheny County Celebrating Their Centennial Anniversary |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution honoring the Centennial anniversary of Chalfant Borough of Allegheny County. Chalfant Borough was incorporated on December 14, 1914 by 52 electors who separated from Wilkins Township, citing concerns with services and long range planning. The Borough was named after Henry Chalfant, a pioneer who arrived in the eastern hills of Pittsburgh in the early 19th century. Henry rose to great prominence within the community by serving as the local innkeeper, general store proprietor and as the first Postmaster for the Turtle Creek Valley area. Throughout the years, Chalfant has had to weather years of struggle through the Great Depression and industrial collapse of the steel mills. Chalfant Borough has overcome hardships, while remaining true to the values created by their founders, and is a community where history and legacy still live in the hearts and minds of older residents. Throughout its proud history, Chalfant Borough has been blessed with dedicated civic leaders who have helped it to grow and flourish, as well as diligent and productive residents who have helped it become an inspiring presence in this Commonwealth. Please join me in recognizing this milestone in the history of Chalfant Borough. Thank you. |
