MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 16, 2015 03:13 PM
From: Representative Joanna E. McClinton
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution designating November 25, 2015 as “Elimination of Violence Against Women Day” in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I plan to introduce a Resolution designating November 25, 2015 as “Elimination of Violence Against Women Day” in Pennsylvania which will coincide with the United Nations’ “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.”

There has been worldwide acknowledgement of the need to prevent and end gender based discrimination and violence. Violence affects one in three women globally and has historically been used as one of many mechanisms for denying gender equality. The United Nations General Assembly recognizes numerous international frameworks and instruments defining the obligation of member states to prevent and respond to violence against women. As such, to help address this issue, the date of November 25th has been designated and is observed annually as the date for the international observance of the elimination of violence against women.

To the end, it is for these reasons and more that I am proud to offer this Resolution. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (717) 772-9850.
