Subject: | RESOLUTION – Urging the Governor to reconsider the resettlement of Syrian refugees in the Commonwealth until such time as systems are in place to thoroughly conduct security and background checks and to send a report detailing the increased measures to the states that are under consideration to receive Syrian refugees |
I will be introducing a resolution urging the Governor to reconsider the resettlement of Syrian refugees in the Commonwealth until such time as systems are in place to thoroughly conduct security and background checks and to send a report detailing the increased measures to the states that are under consideration to receive Syrian refugees. Several high-level officials in the Department of Homeland Security, the National Counterterrorism Center, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation testified in a U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Homeland Security hearing that there are not sufficient security systems in place to collect the necessary security information to conduct rigorous screenings of Syrian refugees. While the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has an abundant and successful history of embracing immigrants, the most important responsibility of government is to protect the safety and security of the residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I urge you to join me in sponsoring this resolution. |
