Subject: | Resolution Opposing Efforts to Deny Religious Freedom to Muslims |
In the very near future, I plan to introduce a resolution opposing efforts to deny religious freedom to Muslims in the United States. In the aftermath of the terroristic attacks in France and San Bernardino, there have been widespread public discussions about banning all Muslims from entering the United States, creating a registry of Muslins in America, and shutting down mosques. Such ideas show an appalling ignorance of the principle of religious freedom on which Pennsylvania was founded and our country early on embedded in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I am introducing this resolution in recognition of the valuable contributions to this society that people who are Muslim or of Muslim descent make on a daily basis and in opposition to efforts to single them out for punishment or exclusion on the basis of their religion. I would appreciate your co-sponsorship of this legislation and thank you for your support. Please contact Kathy Seidl of my office at kseidl@pahouse.net or 7-4117 with any questions that you may have. |
